Beeswax is the wax secreted by bees to build up the honeycomb. It is taken from empty honeycombs, melted in hot water and cleaned. The additive thus obtained has multiple uses: coating agent, emulsifier and thickener. Applied superficially on foodstuffs, it gives a shiny appearance, prevents drying and loss of flavor. No harmful effects have ever been demonstrated. Its use is considered safe.
