E171 Dioxyde de titane

E171 Dioxyde de titane"Currently banned in France. Titanium dioxide is used as a white colorant. It is, at least partially, in nanometric form. A study by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), known as NanoGut, published in January 2017, shows that chronic exposure of rats to partially nanometric titanium dioxide by the oral route would be likely to lead to precancerous colorectal lesions. However, according to the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (Anses), the results of the study do not allow for any conclusion on the effects on humans. Other studies suggest genotoxicity. As early as 2006, titanium dioxide was classified as a possible human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (Circ) when inhaled. Further studies on food grade titanium dioxide should be carried out to clarify the biological effects of this additive and to provide more complete data to establish an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). On April 15, 2019, a new opinion from ANSES highlighted ""the lack of scientific data"" and stated that the agency ""does not have new evidence to resolve the uncertainties regarding the safety of E171"". The Ministries of Ecological Transition and Economy then announced, after several months of procrastination, that titanium dioxide will be banned in foodstuffs in France from January 1, 2020 pending a European position. The European Commission decided to wait for the result of the work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced for the end of 2020."
