E161b is an orange dye obtained from a plant (Tagetes erecta). Sometimes the code E161b (i) designates the purified version, or the code E161b (ii) when it is the raw extract. Lutein is a carotenoid. It is naturally present in egg yolk and various vegetables. It is a common component of the diet. To date, there is no suspicion of any harmful effect of this additive.
