E1200 Polydextroses A et N, Polydextroses modifiésPolydextrose is a synthetic glucose polymer. It is made from glucose (mostly) and sorbitol (E420), in the presence of citric acid (E330) and phosphoric acid (E338). Polydextrose behaves like a fibre and is not digestible. As a bulking agent, it is particularly used in energy-reduced or low-sugar foods. It gives a certain roundness/texture in the mouth to the cakes, sweets, desserts, salad dressings or chewing gum in which it is used. It is also a humidifier. Consumed in large quantities, it can cause intestinal discomfort such as diarrhea. However, polydextrose is considered safe and no Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) has been established.
